NatWest Skills and Opportunities Fund – We did it!
Inter Madrassah Organisation is delighted to announce that it has been awarded funding by the NatWest Skills and Opportunities Fund. The monies will allow the charity to provide much needed money management advice and financial skills to BAME ladies from across Blackburn over the next 18 months.
The second stage of the application process included a public vote and Inter Madrassah called upon the community and local media to promote the message and urge everyone to get involved. Well it’s evident that everyone did that and Ann Hedley of IMO had this to say:
‘We’re both humbled and proud that the community has chosen to support us in this process. The monies will enable us to support more people in need of advice and guidance and it’s only through our supporters that we are able to do what we do. I’d like to thank everyone that got behind the campaign and to say that you personally have really made a very positive difference to someone’s life.’
The project schedule will shortly be announced but the workshops will help people to understand and manage their money better, how to get out of debt, how to budget and spend wisely. The advice, information and guidance will be culturally sensitive and IMO’s staff have a variety of language skills that will make this less stressful to some of the ladies. To many people these skills are second nature but if you don’t have them life can be very difficult and the challenges may seem too great to cope with.
Stephen Jones, CEO of Inter Madrassah Organisation said:
‘Alongside these workshops we run a variety of support projects. We all know that money worries can lead to stress and low moods. Recently IMO employed a Mental Health Lead specifically to work with the community and to tackle the problems caused by life’s pressures. This funding will help us to work with participants to find solutions to their problems and it is yet another cog in our support wheel rolling towards a better life for our community.’
Over the 18 months Inter Madrassah Organisation will run 8 courses of 8 weeks duration on money management and associated matters with additional 1-2-1 support. They will use visual and action techniques to make learning fun and practical. Each course will work with 15 women.
